I've always liked the Daily Perk. I've been a fan ever since its evolution from a kitschy, 50's inspired coffee counter-style hangout to its current incarnation. The new owner has expanded the eating space, and has done away with the giftshop. Now there's room to stretch out, and wi-fi is now available.
Just the other day, between appointments, I stopped in for a quick bowl of soup and coffee. The new owner, Yo, is quite a friendly guy, the quintessential businessman. He promptly introduced himself as the new owner, and spent time between bussing the tea/coffee center and answering employees' questions passing out samples of fresh baked goods to each customer.
Sometimes I let too much time pass between my visits here, but the fact is that every time I come here I enjoy it more than the last time. Now that they have free internet I will not be a stranger anymore.
By the way, the soup I had was called, "Mama's Beef Stew". I took one bite and was in heaven. It is the best beef stew I have ever had. I am no food critic by any stretch of the imagination, but every component of this stew was perfect, from the potatoes that didn't go all starchy like they do in my stews, to the thick, rich stock. I asked the owner how often they served this stew, because once I know that I can plan to come back on those days. He told me that this was the first time they had made it. I can't wait to try the rest of the menu. Yo also says there are plans for serving dinner in the future. It can only get better, folks!
